recently had lots of problems with letters and parcels going missing when using Royal mail – tried to buy some postage online – seems their website is just as unreliable as their postal service.

Another EBay hobby aquisition.
I have enjoyed learning a reasonable ammount about IP telephony through the purchase of some cheap Cisco 7940 and 7960 IP phones on Ebay.
To the extent where I had built a small Asterisk (open source PBX) based exchange in the house with several of these phones dotted about the place.
A source of constant frustration to my wife and amusement for my work colleagues when I tell them my wife was getting fed up of dialling 9 for an outside line just so I could experiment with dial plans.
Anyway, I have offloaded a few of the older model 40′s and 60′s and bought one of these colour touch screen 7970G’s.
Blimey – they are much harder to configure than previous versions. It doesn’t help that Cisco like to keep the configuration data file formats to themselves. As you are supposed to deploy and configure these phones using their VERY expensive unified communications software suite.
I am endeavouring to configure the SIP based settings to work with my Sipgate Internet telephony service subscription. This is something that was reasonably easy to do with previous Cisco phones.
If anyone has managed to get the 7970 working with sipgate behind a NAT firewall/router I’d be very glad to hear from them.
Had another crack at the Downs Link cycle route with my family today.
This time we drove to Henfield (where we stopped last time) with the intention of riding south from Henfield towards the coast – or at least as far as Upper Beeding.
Started pouring down with rain and then I got a blasted puncture on my bike after about 3km.
I had no spare tube or repair kit so we all had to turn around and return to the car – conveniently parked in car park near the Cat and Canary pub at Henfield. This time we stopped for lunch.
Usual pub fayre of baguettes for my wife and son, ploughmans for me and chicken dippers for my daughter (everyone likes chicken dippers). Actually all nice and fresh so no complaints.
Two new tubes and a repair kit from Halfords on the way home – £15.
Will try again tomorrow.
Stumbled across a useful little application for my Nokia N95 the other day. This means I no longer need my USB 3G dongle for my latop when I’m out and about but it also means that I now have Internet access on my iPod touch just about anywhere I go. Almost an iPhone but not quite.
JoikuSpot turns your Symbian S60 mobile phone into a WiFi router – provided you have a WiFi capable phone of course.
A little bit of configuration effort is required to establish the WiFi security credentials on the phone (WEP based encryption supported), start the JoikuSpot service and then match the credentials on the laptop or iPod touch WiFi settings.
Once established the phone acts as your router between the WiFi connected device and your 3G/Edge/GPRS connected network.
Of course your really going to need a cost effective data tariff from your operator – my £7.50 per month unlimited data bolt-on from O2 has never been so valuable.
Been a real pain trying to source an aftermarket exhaust for my fuel injected Ducati 620 sport.
The bike model was never as popular as its Monster stablemate and it seems this has resulted in a limited supply of custom add-ons.
I had heard tales that the more popular 750ss and 900ss exhaust systems were compatible but after a bit more research it seems this is not true. A shame as there seems to be loads of components for these models both new and used through online auction sites.
What I have found is that the 800ss and 1000ss models ARE compatible with the 620ss – of course fuel injected models only. Not a great help though as these models are just as rare as the 620.
A useful source of information that helped me deduce these facts are the Ducati parts catalogues that are now freely downloadable from HERE
Youl notice that the Duacti part number for the 620 sport Right Hand silencer is 573.1.047.1B and the Left Hand silencer is 574.1.047.1B. These are exactly the same part numbers as for the 1000ss and 800ss.
Also worth noting that the American part numbers differ slightly from European – I can only assume that this is to meet the different emissions regulations in place between the two continents. Probably not safe to assume that EU and US parts are NOT interchangeable (legally).
If anyone has a set of used cans available, feel free to let me know through the blog.
