Just stuff I’m interested in….
I have been playing with the Beta version of BBC iPlayer now available on the free to air Freesat service and am very impressed.
Currently only available by entering a passcode (5483) after accessing BBCi through the red button available on BBC channels. The BBC may change this to limit the number of people on the Beta trial of course.
While the menu system is a little slow – not surprising given the limited resources available on the device, the stream quality is rather good – even in high quality mode while I’m downloading newsgroup content over the same shared internet connection.
Well done BBC.

Some dodgy aspects to the navigation of iPlayer on the Humax. A particular gripe is the use of the yellow ‘back’ button that rather annoyingly takes you back too far in the navigation process. Particularly annoying when you have scrolled through pages and pages of childrens programme content listsings, selected the wrong episode and then find yourself back at Childrens genre listing only to have scroll again.

Snow took Freesat offline for me last night.
Thankfully it was just a case of going up a ladder this morning and brushing all the accumulated snow from the dish and the quad LNB I have fitted.
